What made you want to become a KUSA officer?

The main event that triggered for me to join as a KUSA officer was after being acquainted with Tae Hee Kim, the current secretary of this organization. I met Tae Hee through a computer science class called CS 307 and learned his interest in creating an organization for Korean undergraduate students from this university. Although similar cultural organizations have been existed from this university, I trusted we can establish a whole new and better organization together from this university after observing the adequate skills and good character from Tae Hee. This trust grew far stronger after he introduced me to other KUSA founders, as they seemed to possess the necessary network skill, communication skill, and problem handling skill. But most importantly, each of them appeared to have a clear and good will in creating this association.

Beside the reason stated above, the website development has been one of my favorite past time activities, and this position was therefore an another opportunity for me to start a new project. To summarize, I determined to develop a website with friends who have right purposes with strong motivations.

What is your major and what is it about your major that is the most attractive to you?

My first chosen major was the aerospace engineering, and there was more than one reason why I chose this major. However, if I have to state single most important factor, I chose the aerospace engineering because I saw the field as a bridge between the practical side of engineering and the conceptual side of astrophysics.

At the end of my high school year, while I was interested in getting involved in quantum physics and astrophysics, I neither demonstrated an extreme prowess from the mathematic nor from the physics. However, because I believed in my theoretical brain and logical reasoning skill, I decided to head for a major that contains enough practical side of mathematics to train me while not missing out the topic in space to incite my interest forever. That major was aerospace engineering, and I was looking to devote my entire life in quantum physics and astrophysics after graduating with the aerospace engineering degree.

However, after few years from the college years passed by, I realized that there existed a plenty of people whose brains were plainly wired for physics. And the overall atmosphere from the aerospace engineering seemed to expect the students to get an engineering job first rather than using that knowledge to study a natural science subject. But getting a job from the aerospace engineering was a tough task for a non-American, so I decided to be a dual major student by getting a second degree in the computer science. Unlike the mathematics, which I was in love with but did not have a very strong background in, the computer science was a field where I believed to be truly strong at. In addition, the artificial intelligence, the wireless technology, and the robotic were three topics that intrigued me most, though not so more than the quantum physics.

Lastly, I chose to be in the business foundation program because taking some business classes could prevent me from falling in love with the engineering classes and the computer science classes to the dangerous level. Actually, that was a joke. The true reason was because I was desired to acquire an entrepreneur skill and a management skill that the engineering and natural science courses do not put too much emphasis on. My favorite CEO is Jeff Bezos, and one book said that Jeff Bezos gave up the high paying and high position job from D.E. Shaw because he did not want to regret later by missing an opportunity even if his friends did see nothing in it but the risk. That opportunity for Jeff Bezos later transformed into the Amazon.com, one of most well known online websites today. Similarily, I also do not want to regret later by not pursuing a goal just because the discouragement and the negative attitude from others exist. Wherever the path a person ends up with, no one can know the path until he or she finds out.

Name your favorite hobby.

My hobbies have been changed way dramatically during the course of my life time. But my five current hobbies are listening to the music, reading Japanese mangas, studying from the PCL or the McComb business school, excercising from the Gregory, and observing the nature and it creations, especially the stars in the night.
